Romantic Rapture Revealed: Song of Songs 8:5-14

In this final installment of the Summer Sermon Series through the Song of Songs, Pastor Daryl brings the romantic journey of Solomon and the Shulammite woman to a close while grounding it in a broader theological framework about human nature. Drawing on what he calls "worm versus worthy" theology, he establishes that Scripture presents human beings as simultaneously dignified and depraved, noble and ignoble. We are not gods, but we are not mere accidents of evolution either. From David declaring himself a worm in Psalm 22 to proclaiming that humanity is crowned with glory and honor in Psalm 8, the Bible refuses to let us settle into either extreme. The sermon walks through the tender homecoming scene of the couple returning from their rendezvous, the woman's passionate declaration of love's indestructible power, a flashback to her brothers' role in protecting her purity, and her own celebration of her sexual integrity and self-worth. The message concludes by turning to 1 Kings 11 to show that Solomon's love story ends in tragic apostasy, serving as both a sobering warning and exhortation to men to love their wives faithfully for life and to women to understand and guard their God-given worth and dignity.
